Covering The Police

Releasing singles instead of albums gives us the freedom to do different stuff. Our third single is therefore a cover. We’re very excited to present you our new single: Truth Hits Everybody, a cover of The Police!

In total we recorded 4 covers of “the roots of our roots”. We’ll release them sporadically, among our own singles. For us it’s an experiment to record other people’s music. Most of the bands we grew up on are still around or reunited, so we didn’t feel like covering those. It was much more interesting to go back one more generation and find early punk songs with a modern melodic vibe to them. Truth Hits Everybody was the first song that came to mind. It felt like something that would fit our style very well. Not surprisingly the song appeared to be in a key we use a lot ourselves, C#m.

The video is shot in our hometown Nijmegen, with the music video for So Lonely (also from The Police’s debut album Outlandos d’Amour from 1978) as inspiration. That album also inspired the artwork of the single, created by our friend Andy Dahlström (Satanic Surfers’ bass player).

The audio is recorded by our very own sound tech, Emiel Thoonen. Mixing and additional instruments are done by Menno Bakker who also recorded our debut album Silencing Civilization (and many legendary Dutch punk bands, Undeclinable Ambuscade, NRA, Seein’ Red). Carl Saff (Iron Chic, Touché Amore, Small Brown Bike) took care of mastering.

Testimony live at Friends First Fest

Testimony full set at Friends First Fest

Last December we did something special: we played our 10yr old album Testimony in its entirety during Friends First Fest #4 at De Onderbroek in Nijmegen! To celebrate its 11th birthday we now release the video of that show. See yourself if you were at Friends First Fest #4, or see for yourself what you missed if you weren't. As encore/bonus we also added the more recent songs we played that night. Let us know which song from the live set you like best! And don't forget to attend Friends First Fest #5!

Thanks to Ruben Smulders and Mari-Liis Burket for shooting the video, Emiel Thoonen for live audio mixing and recording, and Nico van Montfort at XPZ Sound for audio mixing and mastering. The biggest “Thanks!” goes to all that made FFF 2018 such a blast! Click if you don’t believe us!

Truth Hits Everybody Tour

That’s it for now. We’ll leave you with one more fun fact: we did some math (not meth) and it turned out Friends First Fest 2018 was our thousandth show! 1.000! Can you believe it? Us neither! Thanks for reading, stay in touch ...
